Dear Fellow Broward Comunity, Swimmers & Divers;
Only have one week to recollect signs!
The future of our Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Facility is in jeopardy. The Fort Lauderdale City Commission is seriously considering repurposing the property for another use. We have one last chance to have our voices heard and be effective in saving the pools!
Advocacy makes a difference; our voices must be heard, loud and clear. The involvement of a small group of people has thus far kept the project alive. However, we simply do not have enough swimmers speaking up and the City Commissioners are now of the belief that there does not exist enough support to invest the needed dollars into rebuilding the facility. This is the time to get involved to help ensure that this world-class facility does not become something that our children and grandchildren will read about only in the history books.
Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, May 11th at NOON to attend the meeting where a final vote will be cast. There will be either a yes or no to save the pool. We need everyone in attendance to demonstrate to the City Commission the importance of the Aquatic Facility to this community. The meeting will take place in the Commission Conference room on the 8th floor of City Hall.
There will be an opportunity for everyone to speak. Time is limited to 3 minutes. However, please do not feel the obligation to speak. Your presence is enough. Should you choose to speak, let the commission know what the pool means to you. The attached letters, that were previously sent to the Mayor and Commissioners from the swim community, can assist you in preparing your personal comments.
